Now here is some history on the legendary 1206
The International Harvester (IH) 1206 Farmall was a groundbreaking row-crop tractor produced from 1965 to 1967, notable for being the company’s first turbocharged tractor and its first to exceed 100 horsepower. Its introduction helped pull International Harvester out of a difficult period and solidified its reputation for powerful, innovative farm equipment. The 1206 was also available in International Standard and Wheatland models.
History and significance:
First turbocharged Farmall: The IH 1206 Farmall
was equipped with a factory-installed turbocharger, a significant engineering advancement for its time that boosted its power output.
First over-100 horsepower: It was the first row-crop tractor on the market to surpass 100 horsepower, giving farmers more power for demanding agricultural tasks like plowing.
Distinctive design: The 1206 featured a striking red and white paint scheme and a “Turbo” decal on the hood to signify its advanced engineering.
Addressing the tire challenge: The tractor was originally scheduled for a 1964 release, but prototypes produced so much power that they tore the tires from the rims. The release was delayed until 1965 after new, more durable tires were developed.
